Development Team – Ages 6-11

Program runs Saturdays and Sundays Mid-December to Mid-March and includes select holiday dates. No program on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1

Children in this group focus on fundamental skill development as well as athletic and personal growth. To meet the minimum requirements to participate in this program, children must ski mostly parallel on intermediate terrain, be able to load, ride, and unload chairlifts safely and independently, and be able to follow instructions from the coaching staff. Our certified and experienced coaches use various training environments and the latest methodologies to provide the best development opportunities for our athletes. Children in this group are introduced to the sport of ski racing and will participate in the Mini World Cup (MWC) series at Windham. The U10 age group will have the option to attend 1 NYSSRA race at the end of season. This race is optional and the children need to recieve a recommendation from the coach. Children are not expected to travel and do not need to be members of U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and NYSSRA (New York State Ski Racing Association).

Lunch is NOT included, children are released to parents for lunch.

Program Times: TBD - total training time with group is 5 hours. Exact lunch time TBD and be varies for each age group.

Race Team U10 through U18

What are the different age groups/levels in The Windham Race Factory?  Groups are defined first by age (U10, U12, U14, and U16/18, with the “U” meaning “Under”), which aligns with the United State Ski and Snowboard Association guidelines for age groups. To learn more about the age groups, please visit this page of the USSS website for examples of classifications.

Program runs Saturdays and Sundays from early December through March, conditions permitting and includes select holiday dates. No program on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1

These athletes are dedicated to the sport of ski racing. The Race team will focus on advanced alpine racing skill development, fundumentals in skiing, and athletic and personal growth. Athletes must meet the athletic skill and psychological maturity requirements to participate in this program. These groups will often have early morning training throughout the season and thus have start and end times that are fluid. Midweek training through our daily drop in program will be available throughout the season. All athletes are required to be members of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and NYSSRA (New York State Ski Racing Association). There is coaching provided at qualifying NYSSRA events (Sports Page Cup and MST Cup) up to NY States events. Any events other than USSA regional will not have coaches provided for travel unless prior arrangements are made. Additional fees will apply in these limited circumstances. No FIS coaching or post-season coaching is covered by the program

Lunch is NOT included, children are released on there own to eat and return to the training venue.

Program Times: Fluid - start, end and lunch times adjust to the need of the individual group and for weather.

It’s the perfect option for children seeking a team environment without exclusively focusing on racing. Children are eligible for Mini World Cup (MWC) home races and no travel is needed or expected. Program prices do not include lift tickets or a season pass, which are required.

Athlete 2 Coach Program

Not all athletes in our program have the desire to pursue ski racing beyond age 14. So, to give our athletes other opportunities to use their talents and learn new skills while maintaining their connection to the program, we have developed an “Athlete 2 Coach” track.

Go Questions?

how do I know which level is best suited for my child?

It’s difficult to know sometimes at the beginning of the season if your child is better suited towards one group or another. We would recommend that you consider the structure of the group, All Mountain being the least structured and Race being the most structured, as the starting point and then match from there. However, if your child starts in one group and decides that it is not the best fit, we are happy to work with you to find the group or team that best matches his or her needs.

What if I start the program and my child wants to be in a different group?

This is common as children are new to the program and working to find the best fit. If you think that your child needs to be in a different group, please let us know and we will work with you to find the best fit for your child.

What are the typical hours for program days?

General program days start between 8am and 9am (depending on the group) and end between 2:00pm and 3:00pm. For more examples of a typical program day for each group, you can go to The Windham Race Factory website and look at “TEAM INFO” to see more details for each group.

Do you serve lunch?

We do not serve lunch. Athletes and families are expected to either bring their own or make arrangements to eat during the lunch break period.

How can I buy a WRF team jacket?

Once your athlete is registered for the program, he or she will be eligible to receive a team jacket. Information will be sent out prior to the start of next season to order a team jacket.

How do I know what gear to purchase for next season?

We do our best to communicate racing gear and gear needs by age group or team prior to the start of each season. If you have specific questions about gear, please reach out to our Program Director, Sean Warman, at swarman@windhammountain.com

What is the race schedule for the season?

The race schedule for each season usually gets posted around December. Your head coach will communicate the schedule as soon as possible to help you prepare for the season, especially if there are travel races involved.
